The Heartbeat of My Creative Process:
As an artist, I seek to create artworks that transcend the boundaries of language and cultural differences. Through my use of color and form, I aim to evoke emotions, thoughts and memories in the viewer. My artwork is intended to be both visually striking and emotionally resonant. I believe that art has the power to transform the world, and that by sharing my creativity with others, I can contribute to a more vibrant, connected and compassionate world.
My Artistic Journey:
I started drawing at a very young age, and at age nine I picked up a brush and began painting on canvas with oil paints; my early works gradually finding homes in my imagination as much as on the canvas. My first serious foray into showing those works came in a makeshift gallery set up in my parents’ garage, where they invited neighbors and friends to view the paintings—my initial art exhibition that would mark the beginning of many more to come.
My parents seeking to refine my technique, enrolled me in private painting lessons at age thirteen with an established artist in Columbia, CA named Ernest Merl Striplin. This mentorship helped shape my voice and broaden my technical horizons. I continued my artistic education at Columbia College, CA under the guidance of Dale Bunse, another respected figure in the local art community, where I deepened my study and practice.
My curiosity extended beyond painting alone, leading me to study interior design at the New York School of Interior Design. After earning a certificate of completion, I began designing and building homes in Hawaii, all the while maintaining a rigorous practice of painting and experimenting with different mediums, including acrylics and watercolors. Throughout this period, I showcased and sold my artworks in galleries across Hawaii and California, continually testing new materials and approaches while keeping a gallery presence in multiple markets.
My journey then expanded to Nantucket, where I achieved notable success with nautical and beach scene paintings, as well as still lifes. I exhibited my work for several years at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, further broadening my exposure and refining my craft. Over the years I became a juried member of several distinguished organizations, including the Laguna Art Group, the National Association of Women Artists, and the Artist Association of Nantucket, earning multiple awards and honors along the way. Today, my artworks are collected by art enthusiasts from around the world, a testament to the enduring reach of a practice rooted in early exploration, continuous learning, and a lifelong willingness to experiment across media and landscapes.
